Grzegorz Rozenberg

Grzegorz Rozenberg (born March 14, 1942) is a mathematician and computer scientist. His primary research areas are formal language theory and natural computing.

Early life and education

Rozenberg obtained a Ph.D in mathematics from the Polish Academy of Sciences in Warsaw, Poland in 1968. He also holds Master and Engineer degrees in computer science from the Warsaw University of Technology, also in Warsaw.

Career

Rozenberg was president of the European Association for Theoretical Computer Science from 1985 to 1994 (the longest term in that position) and the editor of the Bulletin of the European Association for Theoretical Computer Science from 1980 until 2003.

Publications

Rozenberg has authored over 350 papers and six books. With Arto Salomaa, Rozenberg edited "Handbook of Formal Languages" (1997), a 3-volume, 2000-page reference on formal language theory.

In 2003, Jan van Leeuwen stated that Rozenberg edited or co-edited 45 issues of the Lecture Notes in Computer Science, more than anyone else.

Awards and recognition

Rozenberg was the winner of the 2003 EATCS Award.
