- ^ The legislature failed to elected a senator for the term beginning March 4, 1893. The governor appointed Allen to serve until March 20, 1893, but the Senate rejected his credentials.
- ^ Mitchell was appointed to fill the vacancy created by the resignation of Monrad Wallgren, but lost election to the full term commencing January 3, 1947.
- ^ Jones had already lost re-election for the term beginning March 4, 1933, before he died. Grammer was appointed to serve the remaining weeks of the term ending March 4, 1933, vacated by Jones's death.
