Tunceli
Tunceli (pronounced [tundʒeli]; is a city in Turkey. It is the provincial capital of Tunceli Province. The city has a population of 31,599 according to the 2009 census. The mayor is Edibe Şahin (BDP).
The original name of the area was Dersim. The name was changed from Dersim to Tunceli with the "Law on Administration of the Tunceli Province" (Tunceli Vilayetinin İdaresi Hakkında Kanun), no. 2884 of 25 December 1935.
Tunceli is located in the middle of eastern Turkey . Tunceli is covered with huge mountains, which are called the Munzur Mountains. Some of these mountains and other natural phenomena are considered holy by the Tunceli people. Various civilizations have lived in the Tunceli region, which is Upper Fırat division of the Eastern Anatolian Region. Pertek Castle, which remained from the Medieval Age and is still in good condition, and Munzur Valley National Park should be seen. The majority of people in Tunceli are Alevi Muslims which is the largest Alevi group in Turkey.
In Tunceli the water of 'Munzur Su' is very popular. The water is from the Munzur river.
Climate
Tunceli has a has a continental climate (Köppen climate classification: Dsa), with very hot, dry summers and freezing cold snowy winters.
