History

The city is situated in the tip of the Gulf of Edremit The ancient name of this area and city was Adramyteion (Latin: Adramyttium), which was an Athenian colony, mentioned in the New Testament (Acts 27:2). Burhaniye was previously named Kemer, which means aqueduct. It comes from the ruins of an ancient aqueduct.
