Dhahar (also known as City of Dhahar) is a district in the Sanaag region, a territory disputed by the Puntland and Somaliland administrative regions of Somalia. In July 2007, the district became part of the Maakhir autonomous region of Somalia, a territory which has since rejoined Puntland.
History
The city of Dhahar was one of the seats of, and is named after, the Warsangeli chief Akil Dhahar. It lies in a strategic location and has a diverse population consisting of nomads and urban dwellers alike.
