Sano (佐野市 Sano-shi) is a city located in Tochigi, Japan.
The city took its current form on February 28, 2005 when the old city of Sano merged with the towns of Kuzu and Tanuma from Aso District to form the new city of Sano.
The city is known for its Outlet Mall and ramen.
Sano can easily be accessed using the JR line.
As of July 2008, the city has an estimated population of 122,296. The total area is 356.07km².

Municipal Timeline
- April 1, 1943 - The city of Sano was created when 3 towns and 3 villages from Aso District were merged and gained city status.
- January 1, 1955 - The city absorbed the village of Inazuma from Ashikaga District.
- April 1, 1955 - The city absorbed the town of Akami from Aso District.
- 1969 - Became a sister city of Hikone from Shiga Prefecture.
- 1994 - Became a sister city of Lancaster, Pennsylvania.
- February 28, 2005 - Sano absorbed the towns of Kuzu and Tanuma, both from Aso District, to form the new city of Sano.
