Current issues

Town Roads

Although it's one of the main routes for connecting the Southern Tamil Nadu with Madurai city, the road facilities within the town are poor. The roads are very narrow and riddled. The roads near main market is encroached by many vendors.

Water Shortage

There was a chronic shortage of drinking water until the year 2005. After plan to bring water from Tamirabarani river has been successfully implemented, this shortage has eased to a great extent.

Human capital flight

Although the towns' schools produce a lot of students who graduate in top Professional Schools every year, the town still lacks any development in industrial sector. Even now, one can see a student from Aruppukottai in all top professional colleges. All of them migrate to cities. This can be attributed to the lack of natural resources and water scarcity, or to the urbanization in general.
